Jiro Dreams of Sushi
Wow.
Throughout the entire documentary, that was all I said. Wow. To see someone so wrapped up in their passion that they pursue it into their old age with scarcely a thought to retiring…it was…inspiring. Every second, Tyler and I found our shock and awe to be surpassed and refreshed by the work that goes into this sushi.
The filmmakers picked the perfect analogue for Jiro and his apprentices’s work: an orchestra being conducted. The editing was masterful, the camera work was superb, and I have to say…the sushi looked delicious.
Tyler’s thoughts are an echo of mine. He found himself admiring Jiro not just for his work, but just for…Jiro. Ty’s review:
It is more than safe to say that I’ve just found my new favourite movie.
To my recollection no other film has struck me so wonderfully as this. Even ignoring how professional the cinematography is, how delicious the food looks, how perfectly paired the soundtrack is with every shot, this film is beautiful. Seeing Jiro’s dedication and love for his work, his attention to every detail from preparing to serving the sushi he and his team create, is inspiring.
Do yourself a favour.
Watch this.
